Varietals- 100% Syrah
Vineyards- The Dalton Ranch & Canterbury Vineyards
Aging/Cooperage- 22 months in 20% new French oak and 80% neutral oak
Production- The 2014 Syrah was gently crushed with approximately 25% whole berries left intact. The grapes were fermented in small bins for a period of 11 days. The fresh yound wine was then racked via gravity into small French oak casks for completion of fermentation and the duration of a secondary bacterial fermentation. After about 3 months, the wines were racked and then put back into barrel for an extended aging period. After 22 months, the wine was removed from barrel and bottled with minimcal filtration and no fining.
Scott's Notes- The 2014 vintage was heavily affected by a third consecutive drought year. This reduced yields dramatically so that a bit of extra Syrah was needed from Canterbury Vineyards in order to help us make the 212 cases we produced. The concentrated fruit from the low yields is apparent at first glimpse and taste of this NH classic.
